MALE BREAST REDUCTION
Gynaecomastia surgery is a procedure to reduce the volume of breast tissue in men and thereby address associated symptoms which may include tenderness or discomfort, a feeling of self-consciousness, difficulty with clothing fit, or embarrassment during physical activities.
Surgery involves removing excess glandular tissue, fat, and in some cases skin, to create a flatter, more contoured chest. This may be done through liposuction, direct excision, or a combination of both, depending on the nature and extent of the tissue. If needed, the nipple-areolar complex may also be repositioned or resized to achieve a natural result. Surgery can be carried out on one or both sides to correct asymmetry and excised tissue will routinely be sent for histological examination.
Gynaecomastia is normally due to physiological (natural) causes, though it can occasionally be due to abnormal hormone levels, medications, recreational drugs, testicular lumps or breast pathology. Please be prepared for these risk factors to be assessed and that appropriate imaging or further tests may be recommended as part of your surgical preparation.
