BREAST reduction
Breast Reduction is a procedure to reduce the volume of your breast(s) and thereby address symptoms relating to heavy breasts. These may include neck and back pain, poor posture, grooving from your bra straps, rashes under your breast, difficulty or pain with exercise, a feeling of being out of proportion or having difficulty with the fitting of clothes.
Surgery involves removing enough breast tissue and skin to leave you with a smaller, uplifted breast. The procedure usually involves relocating and resizing (if desired) your nipple-areolar complex. When carried out on one side only, breast reduction can help address breast asymmetry of either a natural or medical cause.
Removed breast tissue will routinely be sent for histological examination and if you fulfil the criteria for breast cancer screening (age 50-70 in the UK), we recommend that you have a normal mammogram within 1 year ahead of surgery. This can be arranged for you as part of your preparation for surgery if desired.
